The Haitian health care system lacks specialized medical professionals in women’s care to diagnose and treat women with cervical cancer. The women in Haiti are the backbone of the family. And when a mother dies, often, her children are left as orphans.
In October 2015 H3Missions teamed up with another international cervical cancer screening organization and set up a cervical cancer screening clinic in the northern part of Haiti, in a small coastal town called Port de Paix. At the end of fourteen days, we screened, diagnosed and treated 708 women for cervical cancer. Of those 708, L.E.E.P procedures were performed on 35 patients with cancerous or pre-cancerous findings, and 1% (9 women) were unfortunately informed that their cancer was too far along, and they were referred for palliative care
Our trip was so successful that we have planned another women’s clinic in October of 2017. To learn more or to be a part of this life-changing event, please contact us for more information.
